Car sales in Clare have fallen by almost 17% in the first half of the year.
The latest figures from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry shows there were 1,692 new cars registered in the county between January and July this year, compared with 2,029 over the same period in 2019.
SIMI says COVID-19 on the back of Brexit and an already falling new car market since 2016, has seen new car sales fall back to recession levels, which undermines the renewal of the National car fleet.

Director General Of SIMI, Brian Cooke says Clare fared better in July but he says parts of the industry have been hit particularly hard.
