Clare Charity Representative Expresses Concern at Top Up Controversy

A Clare representative for parents of children with special needs says she is horrified that money donated to a Dublin-based clinic has topped up the wages of it’s senior management.

It comes after the revelation that the Central Remedial Clinic was supplementing the income of former CEO Paul Kiely by 136 thousand euro, on top of his 107 thousand euro salary, and that this money had come from fundraising.

The Special Needs Parents Association says it believes other organisations will admit they’ve been doing the same, but the group’s Parent Contact in Clare is confident that’s not the case locally.

However, Bunratty’s Emer Sherry fears this could lead to a significant setback for the sector.
