Clare Citizens on Titanic to be commemorated

As centenary commemorations for the sinking of the Titanic are planned, three Clare citizens on board are to be given special recognition locally.

Two Clare men, 20 year old Martin McMahon from Cragbrien, Ennis and 35 year old Daniel Keane from Cratloe tragically lost their lives when the infamous ship went down on its maiden voyage in April 1912.

But 18 year old Mary Agatha Glynn from Slievenore, Flagmount made it to land on one of the lifeboats and happily lived to tell the tale.

Ceremonies to celebrate her survival will be held in Flagmount and Killanena, while Ennis Councillor Tony Mulqueen is hoping a plaque can be erected to honour all three Clare passengers on the Titanic’s 100 year anniversary
