Clare County Council has told the EPA it will carry out the required number of septic tank inspections here, even though they haven't started as of yet.
Clare is one of four counties where septic tanks have yet to be scrutinised, but the Council insists it's mandated number of 55 will be examined by the July deadline.

Overall, 423 tanks have been inspected with only 47% deemed to be compliant with regulations.
However, David Flynn, Programme Manager with the Environmental Protection Agency says the majority of these can easily be brought up to standard.
