Clare Communities Count Cost of Latest Storm

Met Eireann is warning of the risk of further flooding in coastal areas in the next 24 hours.

They’ve issued a Code Orange weather warning for the entire country, but the east coast, along with Cork and Kerry are expected to see the worst where high tides and strong winds may cause some coastal flooding.

Meanwhile, a number of Clare communities have begun clean-ups in the aftermath of the poor weather.

In Kilbaha, it was estimated Storm Christine caused around 3.5 million euro worth of damage last month, but local resident Ailish Considine believes that bill has now grown even more.

A major cleanup operation is also underway in Limerick, after severe flooding forced hundreds of people from their homes in the city yesterday.

The flooding mostly affected the Kings Island area of the Limerick.

Galway city was also hit by flooding as strong winds and high tides lifted water levels.

The coastguard is warning people stay away from coastal areas during storms.

Declan Geoghan of the Irish Coastguard says people could be putting their lives at risk.
