Limerick City could be getting its boundary extension into South East Clare.
Newspaper reports today claim that the large suburbs of Shannon Banks and Westbury are to be recommended for inclusion in a new single local authority covering Limerick City and County.
According to a report in today’s Limerick Leader its claimed that Denis Brosnan- the man who headed up the five strong Limerick Local Government Committee is set to recommend that large parts of South East Clare be included in plans to develop one local authority area governing Limerick City and County.
Along with including Shannon Banks and Westbury – its also claimed that Brosnan’s report could even go as far as to recommend the inclusion of Parteen and Meelick – which are deep in the heart of County Clare and likely to provoke outrage in the South East ..
Mr Brosnan is set to meet with the Environment Minister John Gormley over the coming days to discuss the reports recommendations – after which the report will then go to cabinet for approval.
Members of Clare County Council have repeatedly stated that they would not give an inch of the county as part of new measures to create a single driving authority for the mid west and are likely to reject any such recommendations made to the Minister Gormley
