There’s likely to be a heated debate at Aras Contae an Chlair today as local representatives thrash out the Environment Minister’s proposals to extend Limerick City’s boundary into Clare.
John Gormley’s awaiting a report on what the best local government and boundary arrangements for Limerick City would be in as part of government efforts to boost the economic fortunes of the Mid West but Clare Councillors have repeatedly stated they wont give an inch.
However they’re now being warned by some of their Limerick City counterparts that the extension could happen with or without their co-operation.
All submissions on Minister Gormley’s proposals are due in by the 4th of May and Mayor of Clare Tony Mulcahy is hoping for a full and frank debate today on all the issues concerned.
