Clare County Council is calling on the government to "unilaterally oppose" any sale of of Aer Lingus.
At a special meeting last evening, Councillors unanimously rejected any commitment from IAG that does not explicitly guarantee a long term commitment to services between Shannon Airport and Heathrow.
Members have also sought increased connectivity and service at Shannon by Aer Lingus, and the Taoiseach will now receive a letter outlining the Council's concerns.
Meanwhile, as IAG prommises not to sell Aer Lingus' Heathrow slots in the event of a takeover, but these assurances have been dismissed as insufficient by one Clare government TD.
Fine Gael TD Pat Breen says more guarantees are needed for this region.
