The local authority has been charged with breaching an EPA directive to cease the practise of allowing water to bypass a new temporary treatment plant for the bug cryptosporidium from May 1st to 21st October last year.

Since the initial outbreak of the bug, a partial boil notice has been in place for the Ennis water supply for 30 thousand residents.

During the period of 2008, up to 30 percent of the town’s water was untreated for the disease.

A new treatment plant has been constructed and is due to be fully operational in the coming weeks.

The case was adjourned until the 24th September.
