Clare County Council will purchase nine houses to accomodate Syrian refugee families in the county.
Six of those will be housed in Shannon and three in Sixmilebridge, as part of Government efforts to ease the migration crisis affecting Southern and Eastern Europe.
The plan was confirmed at a meeting of the council's strategic policy commitee on Planning and Housing, where concern was expressed that the Local Authority will have to dip into it's own social housing budget to purchase the accomodation.
Shannon Councillor Gerry Flynn says while he understands the need to respond to the humanitarian crisis, he believes many people on the housing list here will find the plan difficult to accept.
