The Clare chairman of Ireland’s largest farming group says supermarket chains operating within the county are devaluing Irish produce by selling it at heavily discounted prices.
IFA members throughout Ireland held protests at a number of supermarkets yesterday, including at one outlet in Ennis where farmers say they were able to purchase trolleys of vegetables for around two-euro-fifty-cent each.

These were then given away to shoppers as well as to local charities Clare Haven and to Clarecare.
Head of the IFA in Clare Andrew Dundass says the supermarkets’ offers will hurt farmers’ incomes and could put some out of jobs.
