Clare farmers urge re-think on Commonage policy

The ICSA has expressed concern about a proposed change in rules regarding commonages, which are set to affect hundreds of farmers across the county.

There are 190 commonages across Clare, but farmers which use such pieces of land could soon be forced to maintain stocking rates within minimum and maximum thresholds.

The Department of Agriculture also proposes that farmers who share land come to a collective agreement, but the ICSA says such a proposal is unworkable.

General Secretary and Cratloe farmer Eddie Punch is calling for a re-think
