Clare’s two Fine Gael TDs are set to be on opposing sides as the party’s representatives meet today to resolve it’s leadership battle.
Deputy Joe Carey has indicated that he will support current leader Enda Kenny in this morning’s meeting, but Deputy Pat Breen last evening announced that he will support the challenger Richard Bruton.
Things are expected to come to a head later this morning in a meeting of the Fine Gael parliamentary party.
Speaking to Clare Fm Deputy Breen says “there’s a mood for change out there with the people, who see Richard Bruton as a man with a huge experience not just political but economical experience and I have decided to put the best interest of the country and the party at heart and I believe that Richard Bruton given the opportunity to serve as the leader of Fine Gael would make an excellent Taoiseach and take us out of this recession”.
