Clare Colleran Molloy was approached by representatives from Fianna Fáil HQ on Friday evening to run as a third candidate on the party ticket here.

She previously put her name forward for the party's selection convention, but lost out to sitting TD Timmy Dooley and Clare GAA County Board Chairman Michael McDonagh.

The Ennis-area Councillor has told Clare FM that she turned down the offer and that it was one of the most "difficult decisions" she has ever had to make.

She's cited additional work committments made following the selection convention as the reason for her decision.
