The number of patients waiting on wards and trolleys has increased at University hospital Limerick to 34 today.

That's despite a fall in the numbers across the country  according to the latest trolley watch report from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation.

Yesterday, 433 patients were waiting for a bed, while today, that number fell to 359.

A spokesperson for the INMO said it was unclear why the number had more than halved.

Nurses are protesting outside Leinster House in Dublin this lunchtime to voice their anger at the on going problem of overcrowding.

While the Health Minister Leo Varadkar is meeting with stakeholders this afternoon on the Emergency Department Taskforce.

Yesterday nurses in the midwest announced they're to engage in a work to rule at Ennis, Nenagh, Croom and University Hospital Limerick from February 3rd.

This will see them refuse to do non clinical work, including administrative duties.
