The government is being told of the need for emergency funding to deal with the aftermath of major flooding along Clare’s coastline.
Extensive damage was caused to the Promenade at Lahinch when it was hit by a mixture of spring tides, strong winds and heavy rains in the early hours of yesterday morning.
The Promenade remains closed and Gardai are again urging people to stay away from the area as a matter of public safety.
Significant damage was also recorded in other areas including Doolin and Doonbeg, and Clare government representatives have already lobbied the O-P-W and the Environment Minister for money to cover some of the repairs.
Ennistymon Fine Gael Senator Martin Conway feels the cost of the damage could exceed one million euro.
