Clare Gaelgeoir Criticises State For Failing To Promote Irish Language

A prominent Clare Gaelgóir has criticised the state for years of failing to promote the Irish language.

It comes as proposed legislation to promote the Irish language is set to be strengthened, through 32 amendments to the Official Languages Bill.

Among the changes are a requirement that 20% of new recruits to public service be competent in the Irish language by December 2030 and that each public body carry out at least a fifth of its annnual advertising as gaeilge.
