Clare Government Senator Calls For Investment In Cooraclare Water Main

Clare’s Fianna Fail senator says the policy of fixing leaks in Cooraclare’s water mains is ‘no longer good enough’.

Senator Timmy Dooley is calling for further investment to replace the pipe network in the West Clare village, which saw further water outages and discolouration issues over the weekend.

Cooraclare has been waiting four decades for enhanced sewerage and wastewater treatment facilities, with Irish Water having said earlier this year that it has no plans to develop a new scheme there.

The utility has apologised for inconvenience caused to residents in the past number of days, and says supply should have returned to all affected properties.

Speaking in the Seanad, Senator Timmy Dooley praised the work fixing current leaks entails, but insists an enhanced investment programme for the area is needed.

Statement from Irish Water

Irish Water and Clare County Council have carried out repairs to a number of burst pipes which affected supply to the Creegh – Cooraclare area in recent weeks. The most recent repair was completed yesterday (Monday) evening and supply should have returned to all affected properties.

If anyone continues to experience supply disruption they should contact Irish Water at 1850 278 278.

Irish Water and Clare County Council apologise for any inconvenience as a result of this unplanned outage. We will continue to monitor the situation locally and carry out works as required to address any ongoing issues.

Updates in relation to supply issues are available on the Water Supply Updates section on our website, on Twitter @IWCare and via our customer care helpline open 24/7 on 1850 278 278.
