It’s hoped Clare’s smaller national schools will be protected by government, after a local TD described recommendations for all schools to have 80 pupils as "impractical and unrealistic".
Leaked recommendations from the Value for Money report suggest 4 teacher schools of over 80 students as the optimum for primary schools across the country, a move which could threaten 58 smaller schools here in Clare.
The Education Minister has said the optimum figures don’t have to be the case for all schools, and his Labour Party College in Clare, says the recommendations "wouldn’t fit the reality of rural county Clare".
Deputy Michael McNamara says the report, commissioned by the Fianna Fail-led government, is impractical and unrealistic
