Clare Government TD Issues Warning on Use of Storm Repair Funding

A Clare Fine Gael TD has urged the County Council to spend it's storm repair money as soon as possible, warning that 'you never know' what could happen if it is not used.

16.8 million euro has been allocated for works here, but the Council has previously called for the government to decide if it's to get more money in respect of other damage not covered by this allocation.

Today's warning has come from Ballynacally TD Pat Breen, who has also welcomed the announcement that the OPW WILL fund a feasability study in respect of works at Clohaninchy near Quilty, where homes were flooded in January.

Clare County Council has been defending its position.

Senior Enginner with the local authority Tom Tiernan says despite not knowing if all requested funds will be made available they have been making use of the 16.8 million euro allocated in February.

However Mr Tiernan says for the entire programme to be completed more clarity is needed.
