Clare Government Tds to be briefed on Shannon Independence Plans

An announcement on new management structures for an independent Shannon Airport is getting closer as Clare’s government representatives are briefed on future plans.

Clare FM has learned that the Transport Minister will meet Fine Gael and Labour Oireachtas members from the county tomorrow to update them on plans for the separation of Shannon from the DAA, ahead of an imminent announcement.

Last month Minister Leo Varadkar said an announcement on specific plans for the separation of Shannon Airport from the Dublin Airport Authority will be made in the month of November, adding he was fully aware of the need for progress on promised changes.

Tomorrow evening’s planned meeting with Clare’s government TDs and Senators is seen as a definite sign that decisions have been made by the Task Force groups working on plans for Shannon’s independence.

A government source told Clare FM the meeting should provide local representatives with a clear roadmap on the future of Shannon, and specific plans as to how the airport will be run.

Hopes are also high for some good news for the County Clare Airport following the promise of great benefits for the region from Minister Varadkar and recent reports about possible new deals with airlines like Ryanair, though the Minister has remained admament that the profitable Aer Rianta International will not be supporting Shannon in future, despite calls from Fianna Fail to reverse that decision.
