Clare GP Says ‘End Point’ Of Pandemic In Sight If 90% Of Adult Population Vaccinated

A North Clare GP insists an ‘end point’ to the COVID-19 pandemic is in sight, but only when more than 90 percent of the adult population has been vaccinated.

It comes as Ireland’s 7-day moving average of cases is approaching 1,000, with non-essential international travel now underway again and the Government set to approve the re-opening of indoor dining.

All five electoral areas of Clare currently have a rate of the virus that’s below the national average, with Shannon’s incidence of 134.9 per 100,000 people the highest in the county.

Lahinch GP Dr Michael Kelleher hasn’t seen a surge in cases locally yet, but does believe high levels of vaccination need to continue before society can reopen further.
