Clare GP Warns Of Difficult Winter Ahead For Health Service

A north Clare GP has warned of a difficult winter ahead as legacy issues are compounded by the pandemic.

It comes as the Irish Medical Organisation says doctors are looking ahead with a sense of despair, as overcrowding and staffing issues at hospitals are compounded by both the pandemic and the HSE cyber attack.

Lahinch GP Dr Michael Kelleher, who’s a member of the IMO’s GP Committee says decades of underinvestment in the health service is being aggravated by the Covid-19 pandemic, but insists it’s never too late to address the problem.

He has been telling Clare FM’s Fiona Cahill that it will take years to address the problem and is warning of a challenging winter ahead for both GPs and the hospital system.
