The vast majority of the Clare homeowners have registered their septic tanks ahead of the beginning of inspections.
Almost 19,500 householders here, or 98% of those with domestic wastewater treatment systems, have complied with the scheme introduced by government in light of a European Court of Justice ruling regarding their environmental impact.

1,000 tanks will be inspected between now and July of next year, with 50 of those taking place here in Clare.
A grant scheme has been put in place to assist those who are told to carry out major works on their tanks.
