Clare Hoteliers Seek Government Action On Tourism Crisis

The Irish Hotels Federation is calling on the Government to implement measures to ensure the survival and growth of the tourism sector throughout the global health pandemic.

Chief among their measures sought are a reduction in the VAT rate for the tourism industry, as well as the continuation of the COVID-19 Wage Subsidy Scheme at least through to 2021.

Chair of the Shannon Branch of the Irish Hotels Federation, Dermot Kelly, says that with social distancing slated to be a part of our lives for the foreseeable future, extra measures are needed beyond the lockdown.

Dermot, who is also the owner of the Shannon Springs Hotel, also commended the government for their work in handling COVID-19 but says focus now needs to turn to the economy.
