The statistics contained in the the Irish Farmers Journal's Annual Agricultural Land Price Report reveals the average price of land was €5,391 in 2015 down from €8,054 the previous year.

Supply also took a tumble, going from just under 5,650 acres in 2014 to almost 3,900 acres last year, down 31.3%.

Prices ranged from €1,231 per acre acre for land in the Burren to €11,700 per acre for an attractive parcel close to Ennis.

Martin McMahon claims the figures come as no surprise to him.
