The Taoiseach has described the deal on the promissory note as a good day for the country and its people.

The opposition has accused the Finance Minister of ‘kicking the can down the road’, given that the debt will be paid off from 2038, while disappointment has been expressed that Ireland did not secure a write-down of the monies owed.
However Clare Labour TD Michael McNamara insists its makes the debt burden much more affordable.
