Clare man comes home first in Etape Hibernia

Over 1700 cyclists have taken to the roads of Clare today as part of the first Sky Ride Etape Hibernia.

The cyclists sat off from the Gort Road Industrial Estate this morning, and travelled along an 82 mile route which included Ruan,  Corofin, Ballyvaughan, Doolin, Lahinch, Spanishpoint, Connolly, Kilmaley and Inch.

Shannon Development estimates that today’s event is worth 1.5 million euro to the local economy.

Ennis man  Philip Colleran was first past the finishing line just after 11am in under 4 hours with several more cycliysss from the county coming home in the top 50.

The dolmen cycling club rider was delighted with the win on home soil:
