Opening the case at the Central Criminal Court prosecuting council told the jury that it was the state’s case there was a pattern of sexual abuse and serial rapes by the accused on his partner’s daughter from December 1998 to May 2005.

The court heard the girl’s mother met the 40 year old in 1995 and that they along with a number of other siblings moved to Clare in 2002 where they lived in a number of houses over several years.

The prosecution told the jury that it was the accused man modus operandi to ask the alleged victim to come into his bedroom to rub his back, and the abuse would then take place.

He said in May 2005 the girl’s mother confronted the accused after a conversation she had with her daughter and it’s the state case he made certain admissions…

Gardaí became aware of the complaints that September and when they interviewed the accused he denied the allegations
