Clare County Council has issued a severe flood warning for the entire county saying that due to elevated water levels in waterways, saturated ground, spring tides and strong winds, localised flooding is a strong possibility.

Senior Engineer Tom Tiernan says the entire county is at risk.

Meanwhile, the Minister with Responsibility for the Office of Public Works has defended the coalition's handling of the flooding situation to date.

Simon Harris says they're looking well into the future on the issue.
