Clare On Alert As Storm Eva Approaches

Parts of Clare are bracing themselves for more severe weather as Storm Eve is expected to make landfall later.

An orange weather alert is in place from 1 o'clock this afternoon with gusts of up to 120 kilometres per hour forecast.

Met Eireann says storm Eva will be 'short and sharp' with winds of up to 120km per hour expected to batter the country this afternoon.

A mid-level orange weather alert is in place for Clare, Galway, Mayo, Sligo and Donegal, while there's a yelloe warning for the rest of the country.

Forecaster Pat Clarke says it won't take storm Eva long to clear.

Clare County Council says it doesn't forsee any major flooding issues as a result of Storm Eva.

As a precautionary measure, the local authority is urging land, home and business owners, particularly those in low lying coastal areas, to take precautionary steps in light of the heightened flood risk.

Senior Engineer Tom Tiernan hopes there won't be any major damage.

Meanwhile, the ESB says its maintaining the flow of water from Parteen Weir at 335 cubic metres per second.

Water levels in Lough Derg are continuing to rise but the power company will continuing to monitor the situation.

Junior Minister for the OPW Simon Harris says he is working on a co-ordinated approach to help flooding victims.
