Clare parents to protest to protect special needs allocations

Clare parents of children with special needs are welcoming the government’s change of mid on cuts to resource teachers.

As the Education Minister announced an extra 500 teaching posts in September to meet the increased demands for special needs teaching, he expressed regret over the anguish caused to families as a result of changes announced last week.

His department has also confirmed that no child requiring special needs assistance will be deprived of support in September, but some concerned Clare parents say they’re going ahead with a protest in Ennis this morning to highlight the need to protect special needs education from further cuts.

For others there’s a sense of relief that Minister Ruairi Quinn has changed his mind.
