People in Clare are being asked not to let down their guard against COVID-19 this weekend as the virus continues to be prevalent in the Midwest region.
48 cases of the virus have been confirmed in this county in the two weeks up to this Wednesday – though more than 800 cases have been diagnosed in Limerick in the same timeframe.
A crisis meeting is taking place later today between health officials and public representatives in Limerick over the recent spike in Covid-19 cases.
Chief Medical Officer Tony Holohan’s concerned about the ‘significant increase’ saying it’s extremely important everyone in the region continues to stick to the public health advice.
It’s prompted a joint appeal from local public health doctors, the UL Hospitals Group, Clare County Council and the Clare Garda Division for people here to adhere to public health guidelines over the Bank Holiday weekend.
Director of Public Health Mid-West, Dr Mai Mannix says indoor gatherings in particular should be avoided.
