Clare Planning Permissions Hit Record Low

The number of planning permissions granted in Clare from January until March of this year was the lowest of any three month period in over a decade.

However, even though the number of homes is at a record low, the size of these properties is set to be larger than in previous years

Clare County Council granted 50 seperate planning permissions in the first three months of this year: 45 for one off homes and 5 for Multi development houses.

This marks the lowest figure for any three-month period since CSO records began in 2001.

In total, the applications are for 68 units, again among the lowest for the last decade.

The figures do not cover the towns of Ennis or Kilrush, where the town Councils retain jurisdiction over planning – however, the figures there are also low with the green light for one permission of three houses granted in the West Clare town, and one permission grandted for three flats in ENnis

Even though the number of homes getting the go-ahead is low, the figures suggest that developers are looking to build bigger houses.

The average size of homes set to be built here are at their fourth-highest level in the last decade.
