Clare’s population increased by nearly 200 in the first three months of this year, as the number of births here out-stripped the number of deaths.
Full figures are contained in a new release from the Central Statistics Office.
412 children were born to Clare mothers from January to March of this year – 206 were boys, and 206 were girls.
The CSO’s Vital Statistics release shows two-thirds of those children were born to married parents, and that three-quarters of unmarried mothers were living with their partners.
The average age of a Clare woman giving birth is 32.4 years, slightly higher than the national average.
223 deaths were registered in Clare during the same period.
Five more men than women lost their lives, and heart disease remained the county’s biggest killer.
