Representatives of Primary schools in Shannon and Newmarket on Fergus have expressed concern over government plans to change the patronage of one local school.
The Education Minister says he’s looking to reduce the church’s dominance of primary education, and a survey of parents in the area has indicated a desire for an Educate Together school in the Shannon area.

However, that would involve removing the Bishop of Killaloe as patron from an existing school, a process which it’s claimed will lead to uncertainty for parents, pupils and teachers.
