The Vice Chair of the Clare Pyrite Action Group believes the number of houses officially impacted by the mineral in this county is at ‘the tip of the iceberg’.
It follows the Housing Minister’s pledge that budgetary constraints won’t stand in the way of affected homes here accessing some form of State redress.
Minister Darragh O Brien’s pledge to the three members of the Clare Pyrite Action Group following their meeting in Ennis on Friday.
The local authority made a submission to the Department of Housing to access the Defective Concrete Blocks Scheme just under a month ago.
The initiative covers 90 percent of the costs associated with works deemed necessary for the remediation of a home, though impacted homeowners are still campaigning for 100 percent redress.
The Housing Minister, though, says it won’t be cost constraints that stands in the way of those affected by pyrite from accessing compensation.
Minister O Brien says the funds are available to assist if and when Clare County Council’s application to the scheme is approved.

There are currently 72 members of the group, with at least two estates here known to be impacted by pyrite.
Drumline homeowner Mary Hanley, whose house was visited by the Minister on Friday, is hopeful more of those impacted in this county will now come forward.
