Clare Rape Case remanded for sentencing

A Clareman convicted of raping his pregnant ex-girlfriend at gunpoint at her County Clare home over two years ago is expected to be sentenced later this month .

The 44-year-old man, originally from England was found guilty on two counts of rape at the Central Criminal Court in Dublin on Friday evening .

He had pleaded not (NOT) guilty to a total of 11 charges but had admitted assaulting the woman at her Clare home on September 9, 2007.

The jury took over five hours to convict the 44 year old but found him not guilty of three other rape charges and also acquitted him on a charge of threatening to kill his former girlfriend when she was pregnant with their second child.

The jury failed to reach a verdict on other charges and were directed to find the accused not guilty on one charge of rape and aggravated burglary.

The 44 year old English native was remanded in custody and his case will be mentioned before Judge Paul Carney again later this month.
