A woman who was raped by her ex-partner in her Clare home when she was six months pregnant says she was made to believe her death and the death of her child was imminent.
In her victim impact statement outlined at the Central Criminal Court yesterday she described the events of the night almost three years ago as mentally torturous, suffers panic attacks and is less trusting of people.
The woman also feels her ex-partner will resent her for giving evidence in court and is fearful about his eventual release.
The 44 year old English native, was found guilty on two rape charges, as well as false imprisonment, possession of a firearm and threatening to kill the woman, arising out of an incident last several hours in September of 2007.
Justice Paul Carney agreed to delay sentencing until Monday after a witness in the case was unable to travel because of the volcanic ash plume.
