Clare INTO Rep Says Teachers ‘Gravely Concerned’ About School Return Amid High COVID Numbers

The Clare representative of Ireland’s largest teaching union says members are ‘gravely concerned’ about returning to the classroom today amid high COVID numbers.

School children are returning to their desks this morning after the midterm break, with incidence rates of the virus now highest among the 5 to 12 age group.

The Chief Medical Officer’s reminding parents to keep them home if they have symptoms.

While no plans are in place to resume contact tracing in schools, it’s believed antigen testing for pupils who are close contacts is being considered.

Clare INTO representative Brendan Horan says primary school teachers here don’t feel adequately supported to return to work.
