The water safety message is being emphassised again this weekend, following a near miss in Killaloe.
Waterways Ireland says a swimmer was nearly struck by a passing boat in the area this week, and is reminding people that swimming in near harbours, quays and jetties is prohibited because of the dangers associated with moving vessels.
Spokesperson Eanna Rowe says they want to prevent injuries or fatalities, and confirmed they were alerted to serious risks around Lough Derg and in Killaloe already this week.
