Water restrictions could soon come into force in Clare, following a reduction in supply at the source of many of the county’s water systems.
Temperatures reached 32 degrees at Shannon Airport yesterday, the highest on record since 1976, and similar temperatures are expected today.
Irish Water lowered the pressure in the Greater Dublin Area overnight in an effort to meet demand during the heatwave, and 100 other supply schemes have now been identified as being at risk, with a number of those in this county.
Operations Lead for Clare, Duane O’Brien says they’re continuing to monitor the situation, but he insists it’s crucial people don’t waste water:
Meanwhile, motorists are being urged to continue to drive with care, as high temperatures have led to melting patches on roads.
Clare County Council gritters have been deployed across the county, as road temperatures reached the high fifties over the past two days.
The local authority says it’s continuing to monitor the situation.
