Clare senator calls for inquiry into death of priest

A Clare Senator has lent his voice to calls for an inquiry to be carried out into the murder of a priest in Co. Offaly in 1985.

Fr. Niall Molloy, who was 52 and originally from Co Roscommon, was beaten to death in a home in Clara 27 years ago.

The Seanad today heard calls for the establishment of a public inquiry into the crime, with Labour Senator John Whelan claiming there had been a conspiracy of silence and a cover up.

And as the Cathoirleach ruled him out of order, North Clare Fine Gael Senator Martin Conway said he too feels the murder of Fr. Molloy deserves further investigation
