The Government has rebuffed calls from a Clare Senator for the powers of the Garda Reserve to be extended to help reduce crime against the elderly.
Ennistymon Senator Martin Conway had called for extra duties to be given to reserve officers in light of the case of pensioner Michael McMahon who fled his Cree home after it was twice targetted by thieves.

His call has been rejected by the Justice Minister for now, but Senator Conway has vowed to continue his campaign.
