A Clare government representative has said the county's 8.3 million euro allocation for coastal protection and flood defence works should be the beginning of such payments.
North Clare Fine Gael Senator Martin Conway has acknowledged that the money, confirmed this week by the Office of Public Works, won't see defences upgraded to the levels sought by communities hit by the recent storms.

Clare received the largest allocation of any county in Ireland, however, and Senator Conway is hopeful that more will follow.
