Clare Senator Says Lower Tax For Emigrants Would Be Unfair On Those Who Remained

Clare's Senator says he doesn't believe that lower tax rates for emigrants would be fair for workers who have remained in the country.

It follow reports that a special tax rate of 30 per cent could be offered to people earning over 75,000 euro in certain jobs, although this has yet to be discussed by cabinet.

Clare's Junior Minister Pat Breen has already appeared to pour cold water on the reports, saying he doesn't believe such a plan is in place.

Ennistymon Senator Martin Conway says a number of budget submissions will be made over the coming weeks but not all will be pushed through.

And he believes that while there's an argument for tax incentives for skilled workers forced to go abroad, it can't be at the expense of those who stayed
