The Ennistymon Senator says he and many of his party colleagues remain deeply uncomfortable with suspending water charges but he insists that difficult decisions will have to be made in order to secure a stable government.

Fine Gael and Fianna Fail have returned to Trinity College this afternoon to try and put the finishing touches on a government deal.

Fianna Fáil says it's still keen to ensure a deal is reached on issues like housing supply and rent supplement.

Fine Gael's Leo Varadkar denies his comments yesterday – describing Fianna Fáil's policies as 'insane' – will scupper a deal.

Clare's newly re-elected Senator has indicated that he and many of his Fine Gael party colleagues remain deeply uncomfortable with the suspension of water charges.

But Martin Conway says the onus is on all TDs to ensure a stable Government is formed.

News of the potential suspension of water charges has been met with anger by some people on the streets of Ennis who have paid their water charges.

Fine Gael are due to meet with TDs from the Independent Alliance later today to discuss the content of a deal and it's believed we could have a new Government by the middle of next week.
