Students from Clare Galway and Monaghan come before the High Court this morning – challenging cuts made to their grant in the budget.
The Government announced changes to the Higher Education Maintenance Grant in December’s budget, – including that the family home must now be more then 45 kilometres from the college in order to qualify.
The 3 students, including Medb McCarthy from Burrin, says the cuts are too severe – with some seeing a reduction of almost 4,000 euro.

It’s hoped if the High Court judge rules in their favour – this may put pressure on the Education Minister to reverse the cuts, which affect over 25,000 students.
