Two students in Clare have walked away from this year’s BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition with three prizes between them.
The Science Foundation Ireland award has been given to Patrick Sheridan from Meánscoil na mBráithre in Ennistymon for his project which examined the energy impact of crypto-currency mining.
In a double whammy, Patrick also took home third place in the technology intermediate individual category for the same project.
Meanwhile, Cindy O’Leary, from Mary Immaculate Secondary School in Lisdoonvarna, has walked away with second place in the biological and ecological junior individual category.
Her project examined the presence of microplastics in Irish mussels.
The overall winner of this year’s BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition was 15-year-old Simon Meehan from Cork, who has won €7,500, the BTYSTE Perpetual Trophy and a trip to Bletchley Park in England.
Simon will go on to represent Ireland at the European Union Contest for Young Scientists.
