Clare T.D hopes change to tax laws could keep pubs open

A Clare government TD claims changes in taxation laws could save rural pubs from closing.

Labour TD Michael McNamara has called on the Finance Minister to charge more VAT on alcohol sold in off-licenses, in order to attract more people back to pubs which he say, are vital for rural areas in both an economic and social sense.

Deputy McNamara admits there are difficulties with his proposal, but he believes it could have a positive benefit
